Clothing Swap
Join us for a free, all-inclusive clothing swap in celebration of Earth Month and in support of Urban University's mission to uplift single moms across Oakland.
Here's how it works:
→ Bring 3–10 gently loved pieces (any size, any style)
→ Browse what others bring and take home what sparks joy
→ Leave knowing you helped reduce textile waste and support a community that deserves it.
Every swap is a small act of sustainability and solidarity. Come as you are. Leave with something new-to-you. All are welcome — every body, every background, every style.
Poetry Ancestors
Poetry Ancestors is a generative writing workshop that invites you into poetry as ritual, remembrance, and inheritance. Together, we will explore how language can reconnect us to lineage, both personal and cultural, and how writing can become a practice of return rather than performance.
Led by instructor Lyn Patterson through guided prompts, reflection, and shared space, participants will work with memory as material. We will consider what has been passed down, what has been lost, and what can be reimagined. This is a space for slowing down, listening closely, and writing from a place that honors those who came before us.
The Neighborhood Plant Dealer will be on site with plants and herbs for building poetry altars, offering a tactile way to ground your writing in ritual and intention.
Open to all levels. Come ready to write, reflect, and be in community.
