Educate
Tracey Williams, founder of urban university, launched the organization in 1998 during welfare reform with a mission to uplift low-income individuals through culturally competent workforce development and coaching. Her innovative approach expanded in 2009 with social enterprises like Urban Furniture and Boutique, creating paid opportunities and transitional support for single mothers.
Empower
We believe that both personal and professional empowerment is essential to overcoming poverty for single moms. We provide self-esteem and soft skills training along with individualized coaching to help them navigate life’s challenges and opportunities.
urban university is committed to breaking the cycle of poverty for single mothers in the Bay Area. By offering programs focused on education, employment, and personal empowerment, we help mothers build the skills and confidence needed to achieve self-sufficiency.
We believe that education is key to providing single moms a firm foundation for success in life. Our stores provide a “living classroom” where they develop business skills through hands-on training. Our urban learning center helps single moms advance their academic and employability skills.
